The Shifa Project and Foundation House recently conducted a welcoming session workshop specifically designed for newly arrived Palestinian families. The main objective was to inform participants about the diverse health and mental health support services at their disposal. This initiative aims to ease their transition into the new environment by furnishing thorough information and resources. The workshop strives to empower families with an understanding of the available support systems, ultimately enhancing their wellbeing and fostering integration into the community. Similar sessions are being organised across Victoria. For more information on the various supports available, please visit foundationhouse.org.au/ and shifaproject.org.au

Cultural intelligence in Mental Health Care (Level 1) Training
Why do we need to attend to our client’s culture and our cultural background in mental health practice?
How do the concepts of mental ill-health and wellbeing differ among people from different cultural backgrounds?
How do therapists racial awareness and cultural competence influence the success of therapy for the clients we work with?
How do Muslims conceptualise symptoms of mental ill-health, and what types of help-seeking and coping behaviours might they draw on?
This 2 Day program will use the Cultural intelligence (CQ) model to explore culturally intelligent mental health care with Muslim clients.
This is a wonderful opportunity for mental health practitioners to engage in some reflective cultural self-awareness to improve therapeutic outcomes with Muslim clients.
