World Mental Health Day 2025

Today, we honor the professionals who walk beside our community — listening, guiding, and holding space for healing.

At the Centre for Muslim Wellbeing, we’re proud to spotlight practitioners who offer faith-informed, culturally safe mental health care.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be introducing members of our Professional List — counsellors, psychologists, and wellbeing practitioners dedicated to supporting Muslim communities across Victoria.
Because mental health care should understand your faith, culture, and story. This #WorldMentalHealthDay and beyond —

The Centre for Muslim Wellbeing, in partnership with Educaid Australia and Preston Mosque, recently hosted SANAD: Suicide Prevention Training — a one-day workshop for imams, funeral directors, and community leaders.

Facilitated by Ziyad Serhan, the training combined evidence-based tools with Islamic perspectives to strengthen suicide awareness, response, and postvention within Muslim communities.

Participants explored how to recognise distress, engage in compassionate conversations, and support individuals and families with dignity and care.

💚 “Whoever saves a life, it will be as if they saved all of humanity.” [Qur’an 5:32]

If your organisation, school, or workplace is looking for culturally responsive mental health and suicide prevention training, reach out to us today. Let’s work together to build stronger, safer, and more supportive communities.

We held a special Clay & Chai – Carers Circle, led by Noha Aly and Husna Pasha.

This month’s theme was Clay & Chai — a creative wellbeing initiative designed especially for Muslim carers. It was a safe, culturally appropriate space to pause, reflect, and reconnect.

Through gentle clay activities and warm cups of chai, participants expressed themselves, shared stories, and built supportive connections with others who truly understand.

Last week, we held a roundtable discussion at East Preston Islamic College, facilitated by Husna from the Centre for Muslim Wellbeing.
Year 10 students, teachers, and the school Imam came together for an open and meaningful conversation about mental health — exploring how to support one another and approach these important topics with confidence and care
