Centre for Muslim Wellbeing Receives the VMC Award for Excellence in Mental Health and Wellbeing

The Centre for Muslim Wellbeing (CMW) has been awarded the 2025 Victorian Multicultural Commission Award for Excellence in Mental Health and Wellbeing, a prestigious statewide honour recognising organisations that advance equity, inclusion and culturally responsive mental health support across Victoria.

Founded in 2018, CMW is a community-led organisation dedicated to strengthening the mental health, spiritual wellbeing and social inclusion of Muslim communities in Victoria. Through its mental health awareness programs, wellbeing initiatives and system reform advocacy, CMW works to build a culture of care grounded in compassion, dignity and hope.

CMW’s work spans prevention, early intervention and system-level reform, bridging the gap between communities, services and government, and supporting thousands of people each year. Its unique model combines professional expertise, lived experience leadership and faith-informed healing, creating pathways of support that are culturally safe, accessible and spiritually congruent. CMW collaborates widely with community organisations, health services, peak bodies and local councils to ensure meaningful, community-driven impact.

“This award is a testament to what’s possible when care is grounded in compassion and community,” said Dr Senem Eren, Vice-Chair & Co-founder of CMW. “Our communities hold deep wisdom and strength. CMW’s mission has always been to nurture that strength so individuals, families and communities can truly flourish.”

“We’re honoured that the VMC has recognised this vision,” added Executive Officer Ayman Islam. “We hope it encourages continued investment in community-led, faith-informed approaches that help all Victorians thrive.”

CMW extends its heartfelt thanks to the many people who make this work possible—our community members, volunteers, supporters, partners, facilitators, staff team and Board. This award belongs to all who have walked with us, trusted us and contributed to creating spaces of healing, belonging and resilience.

Looking ahead, CMW remains committed to expanding its programs, strengthening partnerships and driving mental health system reform that recognises culture, faith and lived experience as essential to safety, trust and belonging.
