Community Care & Support – Bondi Beach

The Centre for Muslim Wellbeing (CMW) is deeply saddened by the tragic events that occurred at Bondi Beach yesterday. Our hearts are with all those who have lost their lives, those who were injured, and the families, friends, and communities affected by this devastating act of violence.

Every life has dignity, and violence against innocent people has no place in our society.

We hold the Jewish community in our thoughts at this deeply distressing time, and remain mindful of the fear and anxiety being felt across communities following this violence.

We recognise that incidents like this can have severe mental and emotional impacts, not only for those directly affected, but also for wider communities who may experience shock, fear, grief, anxiety, or the reactivation of past trauma. Seeing or hearing about these events, including through news and social media, can intensify these responses. The impacts of such events can also unfold over time, with some people finding the days and weeks ahead particularly challenging.

We encourage individuals and families to prioritise mental well-being during this time. This may include limiting exposure to distressing media, checking in on children and loved ones, engaging in grounding or reflective practices, and seeking professional or community-based support where needed. Parents and carers are encouraged to be attentive to how children and young people may be responding, and to seek support if concerns arise.

CMW remains committed to supporting culturally safe, trauma-informed spaces for healing, reflection, and collective care, and urges compassion, restraint, and responsible reporting in the days ahead.
