Slide How CMW makes a difference

  • We recognise the important role that spiritual wellbeing plays for Muslim communities in achieving mental wellness – as a result, CMW will focus on creating more culturally-appropriate services and support to ensure this spiritual wellbeing is front-of mind

  • It acknowledges the importance of Ummah, or ‘community’ – this is its driving force and will ensure that its services are appropriate to all Muslim communities regardless of background or origin and moves away from just considering the individual to looking at the community that surrounds them

  • It is run by Muslims, for Muslims, and will therefore act as a bridge into communities which would otherwise not be open to providers of mental health and wellbeing services

Slide Our Services CMW’s services have been conceived and designed by the Muslim community, to respond to needs identified within that community. They seek to build understanding and capacity within community, as well as support key stakeholders serving the community to improve access, inclusion and delivery. The principle underpinning all of CMW’s services is about being respectful and inclusive of the broad range of backgrounds, cultural and religious identities of the Muslim community within Australia. Slide Publications and Advocacy Based on research findings and a growing evidence base of what contributes to wellbeing in Muslim communities, CMW will advocate to local, state and federal government for more inclusive policies and greater investment in Muslim Mental health and wellbeing. Slide Professionals List A vibrant network of health professionals that have experience dealing with CALD communities made available to the public to:

  • highlight our culturally responsive professionals

  • give the community options to choose appropriate therapists⁠

  • facilitate a network of culturally responsive practitioners

 Slide Support and Resources Our library of resources, videos and tools created by CMW and other useful links exploring wellbeing, mental ill health, Islam and mental health, spiritual tools and much more

How do therapists racial awareness and cultural competence influence the success of therapy for the clients we work with?⁠

How do Muslims conceptualise symptoms of mental ill-health, and what types of help-seeking and coping behaviours might they draw on?⁠

This 2 Day program will use the Cultural intelligence (CQ) model to explore culturally intelligent mental health care with Muslim clients.⁠
