SUMMARY:Cultural intelligence in Mental health Care (Level 1)
DESCRIPTION:Two-Day Online Program: November 17th & 18th 2025 \nWhy do we need to attend to our client’s culture and our cultural background in mental health practice? \nHow do the concepts of mental ill-health and wellbeing differ among people from different cultural backgrounds? \nHow do therapists’ racial awareness and cultural competence influence the success of therapy for the clients we work with? \nHow do Muslims conceptualise symptoms of mental ill-health\, and what types of help-seeking and coping behaviours might they draw on? \nAbout the workshops: \nThis 12-module series aims to improve mental health practitioners’ cultural responsiveness to work more effectively with Australian Muslim clients. It has been split into Level 1 and Level 2\, each course comprising six modules. \nLevel 1 will be 6 modules spread across 2 days. \nThis is a wonderful opportunity for mental health practitioners to engage in some reflective cultural self-awareness to improve therapeutic outcomes with Muslim clients. \nParticipants will receive soft copies of resources developed in the project and receive a certificate of completion (CQ1) upon attendance at all sessions. \nThis training course supports the development of the Psychology Board of Australia’s Professional Competencies (2025 update)\, Competency 4.1; 5.1\, 6.1 and \nCompetency 7: Demonstrating a Health Equity and Human Rights Approach to Diverse Groups \nLearning outcomes: \n\nRecognise the role of culture and counsellor cultural responsiveness as an ethical obligation.\nUnderstand and apply the Cultural Intelligence (CQ) model as a framework to work effectively with clients in mental health contexts\nAnalyse cultural value dimensions and how they may be used to guide counselling assessment and practice ;\nUnderstand sociolinguistics in the counselling room to improve counsellor-client rapport and relationship\nApply critical reflection and awareness of self-identity with a view to how that identity can impact one’s counselling practice.\nAnalyse the advantages and limitations of using psychological assessment in a multicultural context\nDevelop an in-depth understanding of working effectively with Muslim clients\n\nTarget Audience: \nMental health practitioners\, psychologists\, clinical social workers\, counsellors who work in mental health and wellbeing \nCourse Fee: \nFree!
